Capitol Hill wine store DCanter is opening a location in Old Town Alexandria. The new store is hosting a grand opening on Saturday, April 4, from noon to 4 p.m.
DCanter offers curated selections from small, independent producers making organic and sustainable wines. The store also offers a personalized wine concierge service, organizes wine-centric getaways, and hosts classes. To showcase co-founder and CEO Michelle Lim-Warner’s belief that wine should be fun, the shop also publishes a blog with articles on topics like “how to pair hot dogs with wine.”
Concierge Service, Trips, and Classes
Lim-Warner developed a system for combining data with wine expertise to recommend bottles that suit an individual’s unique tastes and budget. You just answer a few simple questions online, including cost, preferred varietals, etc. and then a selection of wines is chosen, packaged, and shipped to your doorstep.

Lim-Warner’s co-founder and COO Michael Warner also curates vacations for wine lovers. They include visits to wineries, tastings, meals, and accommodations in boutique hotels. A current offering is an Austrian adventure timed for the holiday season in late November to early December 2026. The itinerary includes a city tour of Vienna, meetings with winemakers, and more.
DCanter wine classes include topics such as Italian sparkling and dessert wines, wine and food pairing, and champ camp, which is a walk-around tasting where guests learn about the many styles of Champagne.
The Alexandria location will also host informal weekend tastings and have a small selection of gourmet snacks available for purchase to pair with your wines. 1101 King Street, Ste. 112, Alexandria
