Faccia Luna in Alexandria to Close Friday

The Italian restaurant has been a staple along Washington Street for 27 years.

Faccia Luna, an Italian trattoria in Old Town Alexandria, will close Friday after 27 years on South Washington Street.

The restaurant posted a note that thanked guests for their loyal patronage.

For some, Faccia Luna was their go-to place for its wood-fired pizzas, fresh pastas, or cheesesteak subs.

The restaurant at 823 S. Washington St. began serving customers in 1996 along a popular stretch of Washington Street, where Southside 815 opened three years earlier.

“So sad!” writes Kelsey Ray Horowitz on a Facebook page for The Zebra Press. “We had our first date there and my husband proposed there as well. We always got the meatball pizza, which we called engagement pizza. Alas it was taken off the menu the past few times we went. I will remember Faccia Luna fondly.”

The first Faccia Luna opened in DC in 1989. It then opened restaurants in State College, Pennsylvania, Alexandria, and Clarendon. The Clarendon location closed January 1, 2018.

Faccia Luna’s closure comes on the same day that Reston’s Little Beast Café & Bistro, which is known for its Detroit-style pizza, closes.
