Open Road Distilling Company and Heirloom Restaurant Open at Reston Town Center

The former Balducci’s is now a distillery that features classic bar food and a cocktail-focused bar and restaurant.

You have a new distillery and dining option at Reston Town Center: Open Road Distilling Company and Heirloom restaurant have taken over the former spot where Balducci’s market was.

In addition to vodkas, bourbons, and ryes you love, the distillery will have Metropolitan Hospitality Group’s full Open Road Grill menu, including classic favorites, such as wings, nachos, and burgers. Open Road is run by executive chef Edvin Gonzalez.

“Open Road Distilling Company boasts a mid-sized music venue, open-concept seating including an indoor terrace, an arcade room, and a private dining space for corporate or private events,” according to a news release. It seats 225, including 75 at the bar, according to the Washington Business Journal.

Nestled inside the same building, you will find a hidden cocktail-focused bar and restaurant that the hospitality group describes as “a dimly lit, elegant space with just the right amount of panache.” The restaurant seats 100, including 20 at the bar.

Heirloom’s menu leans toward Mediterranean fare and showcases “tried and true dishes that are both comforting and innovative,” the company said. Heirloom’s executive chef is Dane Sewlall.

Heirloom features small plate offerings such shrimp baked in herbed bread crumbs and mussels in a spicy tomato sauce. Small plate dishes range in price from $9 to $17.

Housemade pastas include the smoked crab tortelloni in a carrot-ginger sauce and a crepe with zucchini ricotta filling. The pastas are priced between $18 and $28, while the entrées start at $26 and go to $75. Among the entrées, you will find a hearty seafood cioppino, a Mediterranean branzino fillet, and a Kansas City strip steak. Sides are extra at $10 each.

Northern Virginia Magazine readers voted Open Road, which has restaurants in Arlington and Falls Church, among their favorites. It won Best of NoVA this year for its fried chicken sandwich and for best sports bar, and it was runner-up for best fries.
