We’ve all dreamed of drinking a mojito while browsing the aisles of a department store. Right? Right?!
So it might not have been the first thought on everyone’s mind. It’s no less appealing of an idea. And it will be a reality on August 26 when Bloomie’s opens in Mosaic District. Besides racks of clothes and accessories from both exclusive collections and local designers, visitors will be able to return to Colada Shop for the first time in NoVA since the small chain closed its Sterling location last year. And the full drink menu is available for sipping and shopping.
That includes Cuban-inspired coffee as well as rum drinks like a signature Bloomie’s colada, a Cuba Libre made with cascara bitters, and the Cuban Jungle, flavored with coconut and passion fruit. Slushies and cocktail pouches are probably the most portable choices. But you also have the option of sitting down.
The 900-square-foot space has room for 21 diners indoors and another 36 outside. It’s probably easier to take a seat to eat items from the concise menu. According to Colada Shop founder Daniella Senior, that’s comprised of a roster of salads perfect for a quick meal between fitting room stops. They include a hearts-of-palm ceviche with sofrito relish, and a Havana Caesar, made with a “very, very flavorful mojo-marinated chicken paillard.” Favorite dishes from other Colada Shop menus are available, too. They include calderos, or egg skillets, tostadas, and both meaty and meatless versions of the Cubano.
“We’re really excited to be back in Northern Virginia,” says Senior. “We have customers who used to go to Sterling that drive to [our location on DC’s] Wharf every weekend. We’ve gotten a lot of notes excited that we’re back and part of the Mosaic community.”
We’ll drink to that. 2920 District Ave. #190, Fairfax
