Savor Alexandria With Taste of Old Town North

A $10 community passport opens up a world of flavor in the diverse neighborhood.

By Alice Levitt April 28, 2021 at 7:00 am

Locals may remember past years of Taste of Old Town North as a one-day, vendor-tent-style event in Montgomery Park. No longer. This year, the promotion has been reimagined as a two-month-long happening on a much larger scale. For $10, neighbors and visitors alike can purchase a passport that grants them access to deals across Old Town North and in the Braddock area of Alexandria.

The sales of passports help fund the work of the Old Town North Community Partnership in creating a more vital and walkable neighborhood and the work of ALIVE! in supporting neighbors in need throughout the city. Not every participant is a food-focused business, but the majority are.

Deals include some significant savings. For example, Cafe 44 is offering 20 percent off all house specials on its all-day menu. That $32 braised short rib with smashed red potatoes or $30 crispy-skinned black cod sounds even more appetizing now, right? At A La Lucia, menu items are 25 percent off. There’s no better way to enjoy homemade manicotti or veal scaloppini with Parmesan gratin and sage wine sauce.

Other participating foodie businesses include St. Elmo’s Old Town North, Yunnan by Potomac, Mas Seafood Market, The Royal Restaurant, and vendors at the Thursday farmers market. Click here to purchase a passport. The event takes place from now through June 21.
