The James Beard semifinalists have been announced, and there’s lots of love for the DMV, including Jim Law of Linden Vineyards (Linden) and Tarver King of The Restaurant at Patowmack Farm (Lovettsville), which was also named the No. 1  restaurant in Northern Virginia Magazine‘s 50 Best Restaurants.

Seng Luangrath was nominated for her D.C. restaurant Thip Kao, but we all know her from her first venture, Bangkok Golden. When she learned of the news from her staff on Wednesday, she was shocked: “I was like, ‘What really. Is this a joke?’ It was a crazy day.” She still gives credit to her Falls Church base: “Bangkok Golden is the foundation of how I started.” [James Beard Foundation]
