A slew of restaurants and breweries expand with duplicate locations this summer. — Nicole Bayne

1st Location What’s New 2nd Location
BadWolf Brewing Company
The first brewery in Manassas, BadWolf’s original space is so tiny there’s brewing equipment in the taproom too—plus a popcorn machine.

NEW BEERS, A YEAST ROOM AND A BIGGER LOCATION: BIG BADWOLF

With more space, there’s room for jacketed fermenters—tanks with cooling systems—keeping temperatures low, an environment needed to brew lagers and lager-styles (pilsner). Additionally, there will be a dedicated yeast lab for cultivating strains for experimental beers.

Chasin’ Tails
Former poker players gambled on a Louisiana-style crawfish boil and found enough success for a second location. The team will also open a fast-casual Vietnamese restaurant and a tea shop in Tysons Corner.

OYSTERS AND HUSH PUPPIES

Centreville’s Chasin’ Tails adds chargrilled oysters topped with a garlicky cheese blend and housemade sweet potato hush puppies to the menu in a space almost 3,000 square feet larger than the original, including a bigger patio and bar.

Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken
The city shop is known for a roster of seasonal doughnuts (try the cult-hit creme brulee), fried chicken sandwiches served on savory doughnuts and a food truck with stops in Tysons and Arlington.

SEATING AND EXPANDED MENUS

The D.C. location is standing room only, but the new 1,200-square-foot shop in Falls Church will offer about eight tables, an expanded menu (more sandwiches and sides) and brunch on weekends.

Lost Rhino Brewing Company
One of the first breweries to open during Northern Virginia’s modern era of craft beer, this award-winning brewery creates a range of beers, sources many ingredients locally and employs a scientist to develop local yeast strains.
Lost Rhino Brewing Company
21730 Red Rum Drive, Suite 142, Ashburn

A FULL-SERVICE RESTAURANT: LOST RHINO RETREAT

Inspired by foods from island life and Southern California, the brewpub will offer tacos and jerk chicken, plus live music on the weekends and plenty of patio seating. The beer list highlights Lost Rhino originals, plus a few dedicated taps for neighborhood breweries and cideries.
