5 Seafood Dishes Our Food Critic Can’t Wait to Try at Taste of NoVA

Try lobster, ceviche, and freshly cut bluefin tuna at this fall food festival.

It’s almost time! The DMV’s food-centered Super Bowl, Taste of NoVA is coming next weekend and I’ve got my stretchy pants ready. Presented by Northern Virginia Magazine and empowered by Northern Virginia Food Rescue, this year’s event spans two delicious days: October 11 and 12.

How will I get the most bang for my buck? By focusing on high-end meats and seafood, of course. These are my picks for the ocean-dwelling delicacies that have me salivating in anticipation.

The munching commences on Saturday with a stalwart on our 50 Best Restaurants list. Trummer’s Restaurant will be proving its mettle with charred octopus served with avocado-pistachio purée, smoked pineapple salsa, tonkatsu aioli, and crunchy tempura pearls.

Taco Rock will show its prowess with bold Mexican flavors by showcasing citrusy ceviche. The seafood blend features white fish and shrimp with red onion, cilantro, jalapeño, and avocado.

On Sunday, the hits keep on coming with lobster from Harrimans Grill. Specifically, the delicate crustacean is chilled and served in a coconut curry, flavored with finger lime, ginger, and bell peppers.

Yume Sushi will be bringing a 200-pound bluefin tuna and taking it apart live at Taste of NoVA. From the beast’s meat, guests will be able to sample nigiri, sashimi, and tartare, all about as fresh as you can imagine.

Got a taste for slurping bivalves? King Street Oyster Bar will have its eponymous shellfish shucked and ready for you with your choice of toppings, including lemon, cocktail sauce, hot sauce, and mignonette. See you there!
