Kismet Modern Indian in Alexandria Is Closing

May 31 is the last day to dine at the restaurant.

Kismet Modern Indian announced May 20 that it will close its Old Town Alexandria location. The restaurant will close on Sunday, June 1; final dining service will be on Saturday, May 31.

Kismet’s Alexandria location opened in the fall of 2021 and was ranked as one of Northern Virginia Magazine‘s 50 Best Restaurants in 2023 and 2024. In a release, the establishment notes that “continued market pressures” are behind the closure.

“Kismet Modern Indian has become known for its innovative take on traditional Indian cuisine, warm hospitality, and deep community ties. Its commitment to Old Town Alexandria and the broader Northern Virginia region remains steadfast, and while this chapter is ending, the team is open to opportunities to return to the area in the future,” the release states.

“This is a bittersweet decision,” said Sachin Mahajan, owner/operator of Kismet Modern Indian. “Old Town has been an incredibly welcoming and vibrant community. We are deeply grateful to our guests, neighbors, and partners for their support and connection over the years.”

The restaurant’s Richmond location, and the newly opened Karizma in Washington, DC, will remain open.
