Skip the Bars and Stay Out Late at a NoVA Coffee Shop

These cafés are good for more than just a morning cup of joe.

By Maggie Roth March 28, 2025 at 10:43 am

Northern Virginia has a rich nightlife scene that keeps customers entertained well after sundown. But it’s not only bars and clubs catering to late-night crowds. The area has seen a surge in late-night coffee shops and cafés. Night owls can gather, relax, and spend time in an environment that doesn’t revolve around alcohol. Here are a few places where you can meet up and get your late-night caffeine hit.

Chateau de Chantilly

You can order a shot of espresso or a glass of red wine at this late-night coffee shop. The café has cases of enticing desserts and pastries, plus specialty lattes, teas, boba, and a menu of beer and wine. There are also refreshers like dragon fruit–ade and lavender lemonade for those looking for drinks without booze or caffeine. It’s open daily until 11 p.m., with a last call for drinks at 10:30. 13974 Metrotech Dr., Chantilly

Magnolia Dessert Bar & Coffee

Grab a sweet bite and stay out late at this Vienna dessert and coffee bar, run by the same management as Sisters Thai. You can linger over a Thai iced tea and mango sticky rice. The shop is open until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. 431 Maple Ave. Ste. A, Vienna

Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co.

Stop by this cozy Vienna shop for traditional Yemeni coffee. Try the signature Qamaria latte, made with cardamom and cinnamon, the spiced, creamy Adeni tea, or fruity refreshers. There’s a selection of rich tres leches cakes and other pastries, too. It’s open until 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The shop has plans to expand to a new Sterling location soon. 124 Maple Ave. W., Vienna

Shotted Specialty Coffee

This Saudi coffee shop, situated in three of the region’s largest malls (Tysons Galleria, Tysons Corner Center, and Dulles Town Center), prides itself on providing a family-friendly space for customers to spend time in the evening as an alternative to nightlife. There are lattes in flavors like pistachio and rose, plus Saudi coffee, chai, and a selection of pastries. Multiple area locations

Tea-Do

Head to Tea-Do for sweet boba drinks and specialty teas on offer until the wee hours of the morning. The Annandale and Fairfax locations are open until midnight Sundays through Thursdays and 1 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The new Falls Church spot (now in a soft opening phase) is open until 10 p.m. daily. There are all the classic teas, plus smoothies, matcha lattes, and special fruit drinks like the Tropical Twister. Multiple area locations
