Where to Eat in Fairfax for GMU’s Graduation Weekend

As you spend the weekend toasting the new grad, here’s where you can find dinner, drinks, brunch, and more.

Pop the bubbly — it’s graduation weekend at GMU. The university’s graduation ceremonies are underway through Saturday, May 11, and there are plenty of opportunities to celebrate the occasion throughout the area. Whether you’re looking for a nice dinner out, a weekend brunch, or post-ceremony drinks, here’s where to eat in Fairfax.

A Celebratory Dinner

Celebrate the new grad with a dinner at one of Fairfax’s great restaurants. Draper’s Steak & Seafood is a cozy, upscale spot right near campus. Or make the trip to the nearby Mosaic District, where you can dig into shareable Mediterranean plates at the vibrant Kirby Club or enjoy French food on a rooftop at Parc de Ville.

A Quick Bite

Graduation weekend can get hectic — if you need a meal fast, go to De Clieu Coffee & Sandwiches for a caffeine fix and a satisfying sandwich. There’s also Taco Bamba just a few minutes from campus, where a couple of tacos are the perfect thing for a midday meal.

A Toast to the Grad

It’s time to raise a glass to the new grad. Make your way to Commonwealth Brewing Company’s spacious indoor-outdoor taproom for a craft beer or Oh George! Tables and Taphouse for cocktails and beers on draft. And don’t forget to pick up a bottle of bubbly from The Wine House for a Champagne toast.

Party Food

For a graduation celebration at home, feed the crowds with Old Dominion Pizza Company’s signature and grandma-style pizzas, plus sandwiches, fries, and wings. Velocity Wings in University Mall is another spot for quick party bites.

A Sweet Treat

Woody’s Ice Cream has been a Fairfax staple for over 25 years. Make a pit stop for a scoop or a sundae. You can take it to-go and enjoy the spring weather across the street in Old Town Square.

Weekend Brunch

Keep the celebration going through the weekend with brunch. The Auld Shebeen offers brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends, complete with mimosas and a full Irish breakfast. Chloez Cafe in Fairfax Station is a short drive from campus and has a crowd-pleasing brunch menu with smoothies, breakfast burritos, and waffles.
