Outdoor patios are back. Here’s where you can spend time socializing.

By Haley Huchler April 12, 2024 at 11:35 am

Atmosphere can heighten the enjoyment of any meal or drink, and sitting in the warm sun on a relaxing outdoor patio is one way to set the right tone for a gathering. Invite your family and friends to join you at one of these favorite outdoor patio spaces for a delicious meal, a refreshing cocktail, or a locally brewed draft.

Honor Brewing Company

Honor Brewing Company has outdoor seating space now open. Committed to a mission of honoring veterans and brewing great beer, its 35,000-square-foot facility in Loudoun County is the perfect place to spend weekend time with friends and family. The outdoor space includes multiple levels of seating and a sprawling green lawn. Kids and dogs are welcome. 42604 Trade West Dr., Sterling

Bar Bao

With an outdoor patio that seats 70, you can count on this Asian fusion restaurant for creative culinary delights. The restaurant combines Taiwanese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Lao influences. The whole table will enjoy a few rounds of braised pork belly bao buns and shrimp tempura hand rolls paired with cocktails like the Japanese Mule with Tokie Japanese Whisky, Chinese bitters, and housemade ginger beer or the Mochi Paradise with Captain Morgan coconut run, pineapple, ginger beer, and mochi. 3100 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington

Evening Star Cafe

A mainstay of the Del Ray neighborhood, this café is known for its neighborhood vibe. The outdoor patio offers diners a chance to soak up all the charm of Mount Vernon Avenue while dining on seasonal American dishes, like buttermilk chicken tenders or duck pot pie. For cocktails, try the Purple Rain, which pulls together blueberry vodka, lavender, and elderflower, or the Gold Dust Woman with bourbon, honey, ginger, and lemon. 2000 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria

Taverna Cretekou

The outdoor patio at Taverna Cretekou gives diners the feeling of being in a secret garden. The space is sheltered from the street in a lush, plant-filled haven behind the restaurant, creating a cozy spot to enjoy the Greek menu. Dine on authentic favorites like Spanakotiropites, filo filled with spinach and feta cheese, or Dolmades Avgolemono, ground sirloin, rice, and mint wrapped in grape leaves. 818 King St., Alexandria

Stone Tower Winery

Unmatched panoramic views of Loudoun County’s hills make this winery one of the best places to enjoy the pleasures of outdoor sipping. The outdoor spaces offer covered and uncovered seating. Gatherings of more than eight people require reservations, and the winery welcomes dogs. Its two tasting rooms offer shareables and pizzas to go with your whites, rosés, and reds. 19925 Hogback Mountain Rd., Leesburg

Café Montmartre

Located in Lake Anne Plaza, this French and Vietnamese bistro restaurant serves everything from escargots in garlic butter and quiche Lorraine to Viet chicken wings and bánh mì sandwiches. The outdoor patio provides diners with scenic views of the lake for a perfect lunch spot on a sunny day. 1625 Washington Plz. N., Reston
