Dry January is More Fun with Mocktails from These 6 NoVA Restaurants

Take a break from the booze with these playful, non-alcoholic drinks.

By Maggie Roth January 9, 2024 at 11:10 am

Just because you’re passing on the booze during this dry January doesn’t mean you have to limit yourself to water and soda until February. Check out the mocktail menus at these NoVA bars and restaurants — they’re full of flavorful, non-alcoholic beverages that are just as enticing as a regular cocktail. (And you won’t wake up with a headache in the morning.)

Sixty Vines

This newly opened restaurant is known for its long list of wines on tap — 60 of them, to be exact — but there are still options for the non-drinkers at the table. Try The Bright Side with blood orange juice and tonic syrup or the Garden Spritz, featuring the herbal, non-alcoholic spirit Seedlip Garden 108. 11905 Market St., Reston

Makers Union

Makers Union in Reston Town Center and Arlington serves up fun, fruity versions of classic cocktails without the booze. Try a passionfruit nojito, a blackberry jalapeño mockarita, or a spirit-free pomegranate mule. 1811 Library St., Reston; 1450 S. Eads St., Ste. 65, Arlington

Matt and Tony’s

This cozy café and bar’s mocktail menus are fittingly labeled “Spirit Free … But Not Soulless.” At brunch or dinner, try specials like the grapefruit-cinnamon Porch Swing Tea with Seedlip Spice 94 or the Hibiscus Spritz with non-alcoholic gin and non-alcoholic rose.  1501 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria

Dirt Farm Brewing

If it’s beer you’re missing this month, head to Dirt Farm Brewing. The Bluemont brewery has five different non-alcoholic beers, from the subtle and floral Upside Down Golden to the All Out Extra Dark porter. 18701 Foggy Bottom Rd., Bluemont

Kirby Club

This Lebanese restaurant has four options for mixed drinks that are available with or without alcohol — and they’re flavorful enough to stand on their own without the booze. Try a tart minty limeade, a mango cooler rimmed with sumac Aleppo salt, a fizzy hibiscus-ginger drink, or one with black tea and chamomile.

Jula’s on the Potomac

This restaurant with waterfront views has plenty of “free-spirited” options, as the menu calls its mocktails. Sip on zero-proof versions of cocktails like mojitos or bloody Marys. Or try the Mondays in Paris, with non-alcoholic gin, lavender cordial, and non-alcoholic sparkling wine to top. 44 Canal Center Plz., Ste. 401, Alexandria
