4 Wine Shops and Subscription Services Offering Fine Virginia Wines

Put these shops and memberships on your radar and you’ll never run out of wine again.

Drink Local! Northern Virginia is ripe with wineries, cideries, breweries, and distilleries. Here’s a look at some of our favorite tasting rooms and taprooms — and what to pick up when you visit.

Are you eager to try more Virginia wines? Or need a reliable place to snag your favorites? These shops and clubs have just what you’re looking for.

Arrowine & Cheese

With more than 2,500 wines in stock, you’re bound to find quality Virginia bottles at this popular Arlington store. Think Veritas Vineyards, Glen Manor Vineyards, King Family Vineyards, RdV Vineyards, Midland Wines, and more. An added bonus? Artisanal cheeses and charcuterie to pair with your wine. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the selection, the friendly, knowledgeable staff will guide the way (cheese samples included). 4508 Cherry Hill Rd., Arlington

Taste of Virginia Club

This wine club out of Madison’s Early Mountain Vineyards gives members first access to small-batch Virginia wines before they sell out. Six wines from across the state are shipped to members twice a year, in April and October. These shipments range from around $180 to $230 each. Act fast (especially if you’re buying this as a gift) since the club caps out at 360 members and you may be put on a waitlist.

Virginia Wine Club

This 30-year-old club founded by Virginia wine enthusiasts introduces folks across the U.S. to the state’s best wines. At just $43 a month (a pretty good deal when it comes to wine clubs), members get two tasting-panel-approved, hard-to-find bottles delivered to their door every month. Members can customize their shipments and get other perks, like early access to blowout sales with up to 50 percent off bottles.

Michael Shaps Wineworks Club

This winery south of Charlottesville regularly collects gold medals in the Virginia Governor’s Cup awards. Shaps, who also runs and owns a winery in Burgundy, offers his French wines to visitors and members along with his renowned small-batch Virginia wines. Wine club members can choose from Virginia, Burgundy, or a combination of both. They get four shipments a year (February, May, September, and December) of either three bottles or six, beginning at around $75 for three.
