It’s not hard to get in the spirit of distillery tours. Many distilleries are taking a break from making hand sanitizer and are back to their regular distilling programming. Whether it’s rum, whiskey, or gin, check out these distillery tours in the DMV area.
Copper Fox Distillery
There are two locations for Copper Fox Distillery; while tours in its Sperryville location are on hold, its Williamsburg location is holding tours. Email [email protected] to reserve your spot, and choose from a variety of tour types: a regular distillery tour, a tour and a classic whiskey flight, and a tour and a premium whiskey flight. Tours are only available at specific times on certain days: Mondays at noon, Thursdays at 4 p.m., Fridays at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., Saturdays at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and Sundays at 1 p.m. 901 Capitol Landing Rd., Williamsburg
Twin Valley Distillers
Kentucky is famous for its “bourbon trail,” but Maryland and Pennsylvania were actually American whiskey’s birthplace in the late 18th century. The farmers in the area turned their leftover rye into whiskey. Twin Valley Distillers pays homage to this part of Maryland’s history, and every weekend, the distillery has tours to show how they make their whiskey, vodka and gin. Catoctin Creek Distillery
Catoctin Creek Distillery was founded in 2009 – and amazingly, it’s the first Loudoun County distillery that opened after Prohibition. Book a combination tour and tasting (30 minutes each) Tuesday through Sunday and see how their whiskey, brandy, and gin are made. 120 W. Main St., Purcellville
One Eight Distilling
Named for Article One, Section Eight, in the U.S. Constitution, which makes it legal for an establishment to serve the nation’s capital, this distillery is doing virtual tastings and tours due to the pandemic. Done over Google Meet, these 60- to 90-minute virtual tours include a distiller going over everything you’d learn about during an in-person tour, and come with a tasting kit so you can taste along at home. 1135 Okie St. NE, Washington, DC
Smith Bowman
Whether you’re in Fredericksburg to enjoy nature near the Rappahannock River or Lake Anna State Park, or to take in the city’s history at the Civil War Battlefield or James Monroe museum, make sure to stop for an hour-long tour to see how A. Smith Bowman’s gin, vodka, rum, and bourbon is made. Tours are available every day. Tiki TNT and Thrasher’s Rum Distillery
This creation from Todd Thrasher in the Wharf is part bar, part distillery for Thrasher Rum – they’re separate buildings, and distillery tours are available Tuesday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Email [email protected] to book your tour, and stay for lunch or brunch at the Tiki TNT bar. 1130 Maine Ave. SW, Washington, DC
