Every month, Northern Virginia Magazine features a dog and cat that are available for adoption through Northern Virginia animal rescues. April’s featured pets include sassy senior Birdy and the loving and active Rain.

Cat of the Month: Meet Birdy
Birdy is a senior lady and about 12 years old. She has a lot of personality and loves to give. She will often greet you with loud chirps when you get home, when she is hungry, or whenever she feels like reminding people that they are in her presence. If you walk into a room and say her name, she will respond. She loves to lounge by the window and be petted. Birdy does well with other cats, but she prefers to be in a home without very active felines, as they interrupt her beauty sleep. She only has a few teeth, but she loves food. She would be the perfect gal to watch Netflix with you and likely will provide her own personal commentary as you binge your favorite shows.
Birdy is available for adoption through Mount Purrnon Cat Café and Wine Bar.

Dog of the Month: Meet Rain
Rain is a blue bully and Labrador Retriever mix. She is thought to be two to four years old, and was saved from a North Carolina kill shelter. She is quiet and loving with people but can be reactive toward other dogs. She needs a home with a high fenced yard where the owners have experience with large breeds and where she is the only pet in order to keep things stress-free for everyone. Because of her size, she is not suitable for homes with toddlers. Rain knows some basic obedience but needs to learn to walk properly on a leash. She’s a 50-pound puller who needs lots of exercise.
Rain is available for adoption through Mutt Love Rescue.
