With the warmer months ahead, it’s time to get out and about with your four-legged friend. Here are six dog-friendly bars, restaurants, and beer gardens in Northern Virginia to visit with your dog.
Lost Dog Café
Lazy Dog Café has locations around town. It serves sandwiches with fun names involving dogs like, “The Bulldog,” a classic steak and cheese with melted provolone, sautéed onions, lettuce and tomato. Furry friends will adore the special dog menu on the patio, perfect for the upcoming warm spring days. Multiple locations
Caboose Commons/Caboose Tavern
Caboose Commons caters to dogs — and has a ton of fun doing so. Its “Ruff Tuesdays” are all year long at both Caboose Commons locations. The extended happy hour is 4 to 9 p.m. at Caboose Tavern and 3:30 to 9 p.m. at Caboose Commons, when dogs are welcome on the patio. There are water and treats for four-legged friends and in the summer months, plus giveaways and raffles, too. Vienna and Fairfax
South Block Juice
This juice spot with locations around the DMV serves up healthy shakes, cold-pressed juice, acai bowls, and juice shots for a healthy boost. It offers puppy bowls that are blended ahead of time and are ready to eat — or lick happily. South Block is owned by Amir Mostafavi who grew up in Fairfax County. Multiple locations
Barkhaus Dog Bar & Park
Dogs and humans will both be pleased to know that Barkhaus is the DC area’s first ever dog-friendly bar and restaurant featuring both an off-leash indoor and outdoor dog park. Humans can enjoy tacos, burgers, wings, and even breakfast sliders (served exclusively from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.), while pups can choose from a large dog-friendly menu. Noteworthy dishes include toast and and peanut butter, a fruit “barkfait” made with plain Greek yogurt and frozen berries, and “bark-ables,” a take on the Lunchable. There’s even dog-friendly beer for the very good boys and girls. 529 East Howell Ave., Alexandria
Oh George! Tables and Taphouse
This energetic and fun eatery has two dozen craft brews on draft. The patio welcomes dogs, and the taphouse thoughtfully laid out water bowls to keep your best buddies hydrated. Don’t forget to save a fry or two (or perhaps a bite of an Oh George! Burger) for your pet for an extra treat. University Mall: 10659-C Braddock Rd., Fairfax
Bear Branch Tavern
Pets will love taking in the scene at this comfy neighborhood pub. Dogs are allowed out on the patio and given water upon seating. With an extensive menu, Bear Branch has something for humans, too, including healthy options like a colorful “Buddha Bowl,” made with red quinoa, brown rice, baby greens, fresh avocado, a hard-boiled egg, and more. 133 Maple Ave. E, Vienna
