Each month, Northern Virginia Magazine features a dog and cat that are available for adoption through Northern Virginia animal rescues. February’s featured pets include the laid-back snuggler Ivy the dog and independent boss babe Gumbo the cat.
Dog of the Month: Meet Ivy
Ivy is a friendly, sweet 8- or 9-year-old cuddlebug that enjoys meeting new people, especially those who pet her. She loves snuggles, pets, playing outside, walks, and napping. She’s housetrained and can be trusted to roam the house unsupervised. Although she is full grown at roughly 44 pounds, Ivy thinks she’s a lapdog. She is quiet, but will occasionally bark at other dogs if they bark first. A wonderful, easygoing dog, Ivy should transition well into a forever home.
Ivy is available for adoption through the Animal Welfare League of Arlington.

Cat of the Month: Meet Gumbo
Gumbo is a sweet and snuggly girl who loves people. She was adopted as a young kitten with one of her siblings, but their adopter could no longer take care of them. When they returned to their original foster home, Gumbo didn’t mind if her brother wasn’t around. She is an independent cat that prefers the company of people. Gumbo needed minor surgery on a knee, but is all healed now and ready for a forever home (and lots of belly rubs).
Gumbo is available for adoption through King Street Cats.
