Pets of the Month: This Super-Smart Canine and Very Friendly Cat Need Homes

Up for adoption, Dexter and Sir Sterling will definitely melt your heart.

By Kate Oczypok April 27, 2022 at 10:11 am

From cuddly pups to curious felines, the region is full of loving and adoptable pets. This month, we’re happy to introduce you to Dexter the dog and Sir Sterling the cat; both available for adoption at one of NoVA’s animal shelters and rescues.

Dog of the Month: Meet Dexter

Two-year-old Dexter is ready for his forever home. He loves to play and go on long walks and especially loves nose work, following his nose through obstacle courses and puzzles set up for him. He’s already learned basic commands like sit and down and is always eager to show off his talents (for a treat, naturally!). If you have patience, Dexter still needs some work with his treat-catching skills (I get it, Dex!).

Dexter has already made lots of friends at Loudoun County Animal Services, where he is currently located. He does prefer friends of the dog variety who are his size or larger who love running and tumbling along with him. If you are a hiker, Dexter loves being outside and hitting the trails.

Dexter is currently available at Loudoun County Animal Services. They are open for adoptions noon-6 p.m. Monday through Sunday. No appointment necessary. Learn more here: loudoun.gov/animals.

Cat of the Month: Meet Sir Sterling

Sir Sterling is pictured here with one of his caretakers. He is a teenager and described as very outgoing, a people lover, and prefers to be the center of attention. Sir Sterling loves sitting in laps and talking a lot. He gets along well with other cats and the Humane Society of Fairfax (where he is currently located) says he’d be most likely good with dogs too as his personality is very outgoing. Sir Sterling is interested in everything around him and is indeed a curious cat!

Sir Sterling is currently available at the Humane Society of Fairfax. Those interested in adopting him can visit hsfc.org, emailing [email protected] or calling 703-385-7387.
