The Fairfax County Public Schools Adult and Community Education program (FCPS ACE) is currently accepting applications for scholarships for low-income adults interested in a career in the trades. Twice a year, FCPS ACE offers $1,000 scholarships to be applied to apprenticeship classes in electrical, plumbing, and HVAC trades. The deadline to apply is August 15.
If awarded, the $1,000 scholarships will be applied to the fee for a fall 2025 apprenticeship class. Classes include Electrical level 1 or 3, Plumbing level 1or 3, or HVAC levels 1 to 4.
“There are tremendous growth opportunities within the trades in the region and year over year, we see how impactful this scholarship program is in empowering students to stay on their education path and help accelerate their journey toward apprenticeship certifications and careers,” says Paul D. Steiner, ACE administrator.
Over the past year, FCPS ACE has awarded nearly $40,000, in scholarships to trades apprenticeship students. And the group hopes to award nearly $40,000 in scholarships this fall alone.
This summer FCPS ACE was also able to offer students a discount on the Apprenticeship 101 course. This class demonstrates the foundational basics for a career in the trades. It’s tailored to upper-level high school students, newly graduated students, and those seeking a career change.
