Plan for a better financial future in 2017

These community classes and workshops, hosted throughout the year, will equip you with the knowledge and skills to plan for a healthier financial future.

Every year, we make a New Year’s resolution to manage our finances better and plan for the future. This year, make that resolution a reality with these community classes and workshops on financial management, planning, taxes, retirement, lending and more.

Financial Planning in Your 20s and 30s

This educational series will imbue young adults with the knowledge and skills to plan for their financial future. The next scheduled workshop on Feb. 7 will address how to prepare for unexpected financial events. // Montclair Community Library: 5049 Waterway Drive, Dumfries

Financial Planning for Adults

Led by a financial adviser with Edward Jones, this series will address how to care for your finances as an adult, including looking ahead to retirement and health care needs. On March 14, the workshop will cover financial scams and scammers, the April 11 session will discuss retirement savings and goals, and the May 9 workshop will look at how health care costs can impact those retirement savings. // Montclair Community Library: 5049 Waterway Drive, Dumfries

VITA Tax Assistance

IRS-certified volunteers will help Northern Virginia residents who earn up to $54,000 prepare their taxes. // Multiple locations at Fairfax County Public Libraries

AARP Tax Assitance

Those 50 and older can receive advice and guidance in preparing their taxes during these events led by IRS-certified volunteers from the AARP. // Multiple locations at Fairfax County Public Libraries

Exercise Your Financial Future: Financial Literacy Workshop

On April 30 from 10:30 a.m.-noon, the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants will host a workshop on how to best approach both personal and professional financial management. // City of Fairfax Regional Library: 10360 North St., Meeting Room A/B, Fairfax

Financial Literacy Classes

Take a crash course in financial literacy to receive a Credit Smart certificate. The six-week course will cover credit maintenance and credit scores, money management and banking, lending, home ownership and more.
