Northern Virginia’s parks aren’t just for people — they’re for pups, too. From quiet, creek-side trails to lively community parks, these dog-friendly hikes give a mix of scenery and tail-wagging fun. Here’s where to bring your favorite companion on your next walk.
Before you go: Dog owners must keep their dogs leashed while on hikes, unless explicitly told otherwise. Visitors should also be mindful of nature and wildlife and avoid other animals, bodies of water, and natural habitats.

Mason District Park

Great Falls Park
Have your dog become a B.A.R.K. ranger at Great Falls Park by following the park’s code of conduct for dogs, including bagging waste, keeping your pet leashed, respecting wildlife, and staying on marked trails. Be sure to visit during the week if your pup enjoys the quiet as it can get busy on the weekends. 9200 Old Dominion Dr., McLean
