After months of construction, Potomack Lakes Sportsplex reopened its playground, offering visitors more accessible equipment.
The Sterling playground reopened on Friday, November 15, after construction to replace the equipment started in March 2024.
The new setup provides kids of all ages and abilities more accessibility throughout the playground. New features include Americans with Disabilities Act–accessible surfaces, accessible entrances, and inclusive playground equipment.
Some of the new equipment includes the dual-track ride, which allows kids of all abilities to enjoy a zip line-like experience; a sensory maze; and a wheelchair-accessible glider. You can also find a viper swing, a large rope swing, the only one in Loudoun and surrounding counties.
“This playground aligns with our mission to ensure that all PRCS parks are welcoming and accessible to users of all abilities,” said Steve Torpy, director of Loudoun County’s Parks, Recreations and Community Service in a recent news release.
The park not only focuses on physical barriers but also language barriers. Throughout the jungle gym, you can find signs depicting sign language signs and English-to-Spanish translations.
Potomack Lakes Sportsplex is located near Algonkian Regional Park and features over 40 acres, with lighted softball fields, irrigated and turf soccer fields, a hiking trail, and concessions. 20280 Cascades Pkwy., Sterling
