Halloween Movies: Family-Friendly NoVA Screenings with Spooky Twists 

Looking to get into the Halloween spirit with some movies? Check out these family-friendly screenings with exciting, festive twists!

This Halloween season, gather the family and embrace the spooky spirit to watch a variety of Halloween movies. From interactive movie parties and themed brunches to exclusive Q&As, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!  

Alamo Drafthouse 

Coraline Brunch 

October 12 

Rated PG, this animated film features a young girl who discovers a secret door in her new home, leading to an alternate version of her life. Enjoy the brunch menu, offering choices like egg BLTs, French toast, or breakfast tacos, all complemented by brunch cocktails. Both Almo Drafthouse locations are offering brunch. Beetlejuice Movie Party 

October 13, 6 p.m. 

Get ready for a hauntingly fun movie party! This 1988 Tim Burton classic, rated PG, follows a ghostly couple and the mischievous “bio-exorcist” they hire to help scare off the living. The Monster Squad with Live Q&A 

October 16, 7 p.m.  

Join Alamo for a screening of the cult classic with special guests André Gower and Ryan Lambert live in person. After the film, Gower and Lambert and Ryan will host a question-and-answer session and share their experiences from the movie, followed by a meet-and-greet and photo opportunity. This ’80s movie follows a group of horror-obsessed kids who team up with Frankenstein’s monster to battle iconic creatures. 20575 Easthampton Plz., Ashburn, starting at $20 

Casper Brunch 

October 19 

Rated PG, this family-friendly classic features a family that moves into the eerie Whipstaff Manor. While the mansion may seem spooky, there’s nothing to fear when Casper, the Friendly Ghost, is around. Enjoy the brunch menu featuring options like blueberry doughnut French toast bake and breakfast tacos, all paired with brunch cocktails or sparkling water. Practical Magic Brunch 

October 19–20 

Join Alamo for a “spellbinding” brunch screening of Practical Magic. Rated PG-13, this film stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as sisters who navigate love, family, and witchcraft. The brunch menu features entrees like egg BLTs, French toast, or breakfast tacos, paired with sparkling water or cocktails. Spoons Toons All Ages Halloween 

October 27, noon

Spoons Toons All Ages Halloween is a family-friendly event where you can enjoy Halloween-themed cartoons from a collection of animated series spanning from 1940 to 2020. Participate in fun challenges and trivia games, with prizes and the chance to choose the next cartoons. Costumes are encouraged and enjoy a cereal bar featuring Halloween-themed cereals and cereal-infused cocktails for adults. 2903 Columbia Pk., Arlington, $10–$15 

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein with Chris Costello 

October 27, 3:30 p.m. 

The event features a screening of Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, with a pre-show introduction including trivia and production notes. After the film, there will be a live Zoom interview and audience Q&A with Chris Costello, Lou Costello’s daughter. Bud Abbott and Lou Costello star as railway baggage handlers tasked with delivering crates to a house of horrors museum. 2903 Columbia Pk., Arlington, $14 

Witches & Wine with Hocus Pocus 

October 29, 7 p.m. 

The event offers a fun screening of Hocus Pocus, rated PG, with discounted wine. Attendees are encouraged to dress as witches for the occasion. The film follows a teenage boy named Max, who, along with his sister, accidentally awakens three witches from the 17th century after moving to Salem. 2903 Columbia Pk., Arlington, $8
