Celebrate Grandparents Day in NoVA

Here are options for grandparents looking to spend time with their families. They range from bird walks to acrobatic shows.

National Grandparents Day is September 10, so we’ve rounded up a few ideas for things you might want to try.

Take a Bird Walk

The Audubon Society of Northern Virginia offers bird walks at area parks. On September 10, it has one that starts at 8 a.m. at Upton Hill Regional Park. It’s recommended to bring binoculars, and don’t forget to dress for the weather. 6060 Wilson Blvd., Arlington

Have Tea in the Afternoon

The Crest Hill Tea Room is an English-style tearoom that opened in The Plains, Virginia in 2007. It offers over 30 blends of teas, plus scones, and sandwiches. The tearoom has a children’s menu with smaller portions. Make reservations online. 6488 Main St., The Plains

Enjoy a Virginia State Park

Take the family to a Virginia state park for the day. Hike. Kayak. Picnic. If you’re 62 or older, take advantage of the Senior Naturally Yours Passport, which gets you parking and admission for up to four people for one year. $40, eligible at Virginia State Parks

Visit the National Building Museum

The National Building Museum offers discounted tickets for kids between 3 and 17, and people who are 60 and older. Don’t miss the Brick City exhibit that celebrates architecture from cities around the world. 401 F St. NW, Washington, DC, $10 for adults, $7 for kids and seniors

See Cirque du Soleil ECHO

Watch the daring acrobatics in this show that’s inspired by the optimism of youth. The show is about a young woman named Future who wanders into a fantasy world. It explores the balance between people and animals. There are two shows on September 10. 8025 Galleria Dr., Tysons, prices vary
