7 Ways to Get the Kids Out of the House This Weekend

From a drive-in movie to a pizza making class, pack up the family to enjoy this end of summer fun.

End the month of August with a bang! If you’re looking to get in those last summer moments with your children, consider taking the family to a drive-in movie, pizza-making class, or field trip to the farm.

Snakes Alive

Friday, 3–4 p.m.
Are your kids not scared of reptiles? Then meet the slithery snakes at Lake Anna. Join the park ranger for an in-depth look at these scaly friends, including how snakes can save your life, the difference between fact and fiction, and a look at a live feeding. Lake Anna State Park: 6800 Lawyers Rd., Spotsylvania; free

Back to School Party!

Friday, 6–9 p.m.
Enjoy a night on the town as your kiddos party with their friends. During this special Parents Night Out, your kids will have their own night of games, pizza, and fun. Premier Martial Arts: 9231 Sudley Rd., Manassas; $25

Family Fun Day

Saturday, 9 a.m.–noon
Get all of that extra energy out with these fun activities. Hosting sport games, a petting zoo, a fire engine, and a variety of other games, attractions, and vendors, everyone will have fun at the SportsPlex. Dulles SportsPlex: 21610 Atlantic Blvd., Sterling; free for members, $2 for non-members

Kids Pizza Making Class at Wild Wood Pizza

Saturday, noon–1 p.m.

Raya and the Last Dragon at Columbia Pike Drive In

Saturday, 8 p.m.

Self-Guided Field Trips

Saturday, times vary

Earthly Manners

Sunday, 3–4 p.m.
Let your little ones learn how to connect with the environment. Head to the park for a lesson on the impacts that humans have on nature and how to improve your future footprint. Mason Neck State Park: 7301 High Point Rd., Lorton; free
