School’s out, summer camps are closed and parents are wondering how they can keep their children entertained through September, as well as how to avoid the summer slide.
Explore! Children’s Museum, a DC-based nonprofit that aims to inspire children to be curious thinkers, creators, communicators and collaborators, recently added a “summer” section to its website. The program, Explore! Sandbox, features a collection of summer camp games, virtual camp experiences, a summer reading challenge and more to keep kids busy and entertained.
Currently, the free database includes over 100 virtual, interactive and hands-on activities for children up to 9 years old (think dancing and cooking lessons, as well as reading and STEM programs), and the nonprofit will continue to add activities throughout the summer months.
Select activities have also been aggregated from other leading museums around the globe, like The City Museum of Manhattan, the Miami Children’s Museum and the Tate Gallery in London.
Additionally, Explore! Sandbox offers parents resources to discuss difficult topics with their kids, including racism, offering parents the tools to guide them through open conversations and questions their children may have on current issues.
