The fun has finally arrived! The highly anticipated National Children’s Museum opened its doors today, Monday, Feb. 24, for the first time in nearly 17 years.

After finding a new location and revamping the museum to focus on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics), the museum announced its opening via social media. Tickets for the museum went on sale Feb. 23 and are now available through March 8, according to the museum’s Twitter page.

The museum’s new building has been in the works since the lease was signed back in December 2017, with a goal of opening on Nov. 1, 2019. As of that date, there were exhibits that had yet to be completed for the $16 million project.

The 33,000-square-foot space is set to feature a wide array of exhibits, including a Tinkerers Studio sponsored by Microsoft, a Data Science Alley sponsored by Amazon, a Spongebob Squarepants play area, sports-inspired physics exhibits (with gear dawning the World Series Washington Nationals logo!) and much more.

In late summer 2019, we spoke with museum CEO and President Crystal Bowyer, who shared her excitement about this groundbreaking day. “We’re very, very excited to get our doors open for this new generation,” said Bowyer.
