For our August 2019 print issue, we created a Kids’ Cover Star contest to find local kids to feature on the cover of our magazine. Northern Virginia residents were asked to upload a photo of their youngsters between the ages of 4 and 9 for the editorial staff’s consideration. An internal panel of judges then chose four winners—Ali Barbaro, age 5 of Ashburn; Nico Belarmino, age 4 of Alexandria; Kalel David Marquez, age 5 of Manassas; and Sage Sutton, age 5 of Burke.
The winners of our Kids’ Cover Stars contest were photographed at HOIST Studio in Fairfax by Jonathan Timmes. The kids’ hair was styled by DeShae Mayrand and the wardrobe, highlighted below, was provided by Wee Chic in Fairfax.
Each child wore an outfit made by the brand Egg New York, which hatched in 2003 by designer Susan Lazar, who wanted to create a lifestyle brand that focuses on the bond between parents and their children. Here, we share the various pieces our cover stars donned for the fashion shoot held in June.
