If you love the great outdoors and puns, then this is for you: The Fairfax County Park Authority is launching its On the Beadin’ Path throughout local Mason District parks.
The new family-friendly program, meant for anyone over the age of 2, runs through Aug. 19, and invites guests to visit nine of the district’s parks located in Fairfax County.
Participants pick up an activity form at one of four staffed parks—Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Green Spring Gardens, Providence RECenter and Pinecrest Golf Course—or at the Mason District Government Center, and then head to the featured parks listed on the form.
As participants go through the park, they will look to answer a specific question, with the answer being hidden within its coordinating park location. Once they answer the question correctly, they will receive a collectible bead, and if participants answer five or more questions correctly, they’ll receive an additional prize packet.
On the Beadin’ Path will host a kick-off event on March 16, at 11 a.m., at Mason District Park. A naturalist will lead a guided tour of the park’s interpretive trail, and there will be a special bead for attendees. Other kick-off activities include activities held at the Mason District Park farmers market on May 2, from 9 a.m.-noon.
The featured parks are nine of the 54 parks that the Park Authority oversees in Mason District.
