On the first Saturday of every month, you can find tots, usually around the ages of 3-6 years old, listening to tales at Alexandria Black History Museum.
The museum dubs these Saturday mornings “Story Time for Little Historians,” which feature cultural stories and creative arts and crafts activities, with the goal of introducing children to history and folklore.
Afterward, children and their families are encouraged to explore the museum exhibits to learn about local black history.
The next Story Time for Little Historians will be held on March 2, featuring the book Simone Visits the Museum.
A story about an African-American girl named Simone, Simone Visits the Museum is based in a neighborhood in Southeast DC where Simone is spending a day with her mother. The highlight of their day together is visiting the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, where Simone learns lessons about responsibility, paying attention to surroundings and the importance of family.
