Did you know that indoor bowling first made its U.S. debut in 1840? Since then, bowling alleys have come a long way. Strike up a good time at these local family favorite places.

AMF Bowling Centers
Locations in Annandale, Centreville, Dale City and Fredericksburg

AMF has operated family bowling centers since the 1940s, and this national chain has four locations in Northern Virginia. AMF’s Play Pack has the best deal for families and includes two hours of bowling, a large pizza, a pitcher of soda and shoe rental for groups of four. Join their “Pinsiders” Club for free and receive exclusive coupons, invites and special deals sent to your email or mobile device.

Bowl America
Locations in Alexandria, Chantilly, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, Sterling and Woodbridge

Starting with its roots in Washington, D.C., the Bowl America franchise now has 18regional locations. During the summer months, this kid friendly chain offers two complimentary games of bowling a week to kids in grades K-12. They also reward students who earn good grades throughout the school year with free games and special perks. The popular weekly Cosmic Bowling nights are all the rage, filled with glowing bowling pins, fun music and laser lights.

King Pinz
Leesburg

A lot classier than the ’90s Farrelly brothers’ movie, King Pinz is a luxury bowling alley and sports grill. The swank bowling experience includes cozy couches, cocktail tables, customized music video playlists and lane-side food and beverage service. The grill features an upscale, casual American menu with classics like burgers, wings, fresh baked pizza and hand-cut meat and seafood entrees. Due to its popularity, reservations are recommended to bowl.

Village Lanes Bowling
Leesburg

Visit Village Lanes for an old-fashioned bowling experience. This Leesburg favorite is reminiscent of the Americana childhood yet has modern conveniences like digital scorekeeping and a large snack bar menu. Visit their website to learn about open bowling specials.

The Zone
Ashburn

The Zone is a modern entertainment venue that offers bowling, laser tag, arcade games and a sports bar. While The Zone does have a lush menu with specialty cocktails, craft beer and gourmet bites, it is still very much a family friendly scene. On Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, kids get to eat free and participate in fun activities like complimentary face painting and half-price arcade games. Those looking for a more private affair can reserve the private four-lane boutique bowling alley. The Zone’s motto is “limitless fun for everyone,” and adults are encouraged to kick back and relax in a fun setting while being able to keep an eye on their little ones.
