1Celebrate America Fourth of July Celebration
Old Town Manassas will be celebrating an all-American party all afternoon. There will be live music for families to dance to, a competition for amateur bakers to enter and plenty of carnival rides. Carnival food will also be available alongside the red, white and blue hayride. The monumental fireworks display will go off at 9:15 p.m. / July 4

26th Annual Lake Anne Ukulele Festival
Don’t know much about ukuleles? That’s fine because the family-friendly festival is the perfect opportunity for you to learn. It is the only ukulele festival in NoVA and has brought thousands of people to Lake Anne in past years. There will be local ukulele musicians, demonstrations, jam sessions and many festival vendors. Come out, make a day of it, and don’t forget your ukulele. / July 11

National Ballet of China at Wolf Trap

3National Ballet of China
Bring the family out to get a taste of culture with a performance that fuses Western-style ballet with traditional Chinese dance. The production, titled “The Peony Pavilion,” tells the story of star-crossed lovers and features costume design by Emi Wada, who has won both Academy and Emmy awards for her costuming. / July 14

4Jr. Farmer Family Fun at Frying Pan Park
Register your kids to let them have a taste of life on a farm. This family program allows kids and their parents to go behind the scenes of farm life. Kids will get to help with feeding and caring for the animals as well as shelling corn. For $5, families have the chance to spend time with farm animals and their handlers without ever leaving NoVA. / July 2 and 16

‘Once Upon a Time’ Children’s Theater

5‘Once Upon a Time’ Children’s Theater
Presented by Mestey Films Productions at Workhouse Arts Center, the “Once Upon a Time” production focuses on several different fairytales. The live production includes “Cinderella,” “Snow White” and “The Princess and the Frog.” The three stories converge in a tangled-up mess of fairy tales, evil queens and excitement. The production runs for 75 minutes and costs $13 for adults and $9 for kids under 12. / July 11, 18, 25

6Claude Moore Colonial Farm: Market Fair – Permanently Closed
Right in McLean you can get a taste for colonial-era Virginia with roast chicken and spicy sausages. Not to mention you can dance to the fiddler, test out your writing skills with Mr. Andrews, meet and catch up with the militia and check out colonial furniture from the Cabinet Maker. There will be hands-on crafts as well including spinning and dyeing. / July 18-19

Canine Cruises, Fairfax

7Canine Cruises
It is about time you and your pooch hop on a boat for a quick sunset cruise on the beautiful Lake Accotink. You and your family can enjoy the breeze and the setting sun while your pet searches the tree line for lake-dwelling critters to chase. Tickets are $6 per person, but all dogs ride free. / July 26

Made up almost entirely of local musicians, the Loudoun Jazz Ensemble will be performing jazz hits from the ’40s through today in the gorgeous Udvar-Hazy Center as a part of their Music at the Museum concert series. The performance will be in the Boeing Aviation Hangar. No tickets are required for attendance. / July 26

Look up to the sky because every Sunday you can see pilots doing tricks and turns that are sure to delight everyone from the youngest of children to their grandparents. Biplane rides are also available before and after the show. / Sundays in July

10Nationals’ Home Games
There’s nothing more American than a day at the ballpark, so baseball fan or not, head out to Nationals Park and cheer on the Washington Nationals. With 12 scheduled home games, there is no excuse. Bring the family, get some hot dogs and enjoy one of the best summer pastimes. / Throughout July
