Three pedestrians died over the weekend after they were struck by drivers in Fairfax County, police said.
Oscar Daniel Martinez Granados, 24, of Woodbridge, died Saturday, two days after he was struck in Springfield. Fairfax County police said he was not in a crosswalk when a driver hit him on Thursday at 9:38 p.m. in the 8100 block of Old Keene Mill Road. Police continue to investigate the crash, but said alcohol did not appear to be a factor. The speed of the driver of the Acura sedan remains under investigation.
The other two crashes involving pedestrians occurred Saturday, one in Oakton and the other in Centreville.
Fairfax County police identified the victim of Oakton crash as 80-year-old Choon Kook of Vienna. A driver of a Ford F-150 trying to turn into Oakton Shopping Center from Hunter Mill Road struck Kook around 8:42 a.m. Police said Kook was in a crosswalk at the time. The crash circumstances are under investigation, but police said speed and alcohol were not factors.
A 56-year-old Centreville man died when he was struck on Saturday night. Fairfax County police said the crash around 8:19 p.m. happened as Tracy Roane walked in the northbound lanes of U.S. Route 29. The driver of a Nissan SUV struck him just past White Post Road. Roane was then struck by other vehicles.
Police said the drivers were not impaired. Whether Roane had alcohol in his system is still under investigation.
