Alexandria has closed Judy Lowe Neighborhood Park in Del Ray at the request of the U.S. Secret Service. The park is near the home of Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. J.D. Vance.
The closure started Sunday, along with traffic restrictions on East Del Ray Avenue between Commonwealth and Clyde avenues. Only local traffic will be allowed on the unit block of East Del Ray Avenue, with no on-street parking on that block or on the east side of the 2200 block of Commonwealth Avenue.
The city said the closure is in effect until further notice.
Residents can expect lots of Secret Service personnel in the area. Those living on East Del Ray Avenue “will be free to come and go with minimal interruption from USSS or Alexandria Police Department,” a news release said.

The perimeter of Judy Lowe Neighborhood Park will be barricaded and monitored 24 hours a day.
Travel lanes, bike lanes, and sidewalks on Commonwealth Avenue will stay open.
