Inova Receives $10M Gift from APEX Systems Co-Founder Win Sheridan

The money will go toward critical projects at Inova.

Inova received a $10 million planned gift commitment from Win Sheridan, co-founder of Glen Allen-based APEX Systems, the health system announced late Thursday.

The money will go toward its Greatest Needs fund that Inova CEO Dr. J. Stephen Jones disburses for critical projects. The fund is now being used to fund the expansion of Inova Fairfax Hospital’s emergency room, according to Virginia Business and the Washington Business Journal.

“Every gift to our Greatest Needs fund is a vote of confidence in our team, our shared vision and our enduring ability to care for our community,” said Jones, in a statement. “Win’s commitment takes this a step further, with the conviction that Inova is the right partner to entrust with this most important task—the health of our community, now and into the future.”

Sheridan, who co-founded APEX Systems in 1995, is a director of ASGN, Apex’s parent company. Together, the businesses make up one of the nation’s largest IT staffing services. Sheridan also runs investment and consulting firm BDW Investments and is a partner in Alexandria Restaurant Partners, the management company that owns, operates and/or manages restaurants in NoVA and Florida, including Barca, Ada’s on the River, and Mia’s Italian Kitchen in Alexandria.

The Virginia Tech alum also serves on a number of nonprofit boards, including One Campaign, which speaks out against injustices and advocates for change.

Inova’s commitment to innovation and making cutting-edge therapies accessible inspired Sheridan’s $10 million gift.

“When you’re battling a serious disease, having world-class care that you don’t have to travel for makes all the difference,” said Sheridan. “At the end of the day, I want Inova to continue providing the best possible care, if and when it’s needed by me, by my family, my friends, my community.”

Sheridan previously donated $1 million to endow the role of the Director of the Molecular Tumor Board at Inova Schar Cancer Institute

“He has already made such a tremendous impact on Inova and in our community, and we are grateful for the powerful legacy he is creating through this new commitment. I know he will inspire others to stretch their thinking about different approaches to supporting Inova’s mission,” said Sage Bolte, chief philanthropy officer and president of Inova Health Foundation.
