A driver who crashed into Ireland’s Four Courts restaurant in Arlington will not face criminal charges, according to Arlington County Police.
Fifteen people were injured in the August 12 wreck at the popular section of Wilson Boulevard, one that police now believe occurred after the driver experienced a medical emergency.
The car became engulfed in flames in the immediate aftermath of the collision, which eventually spread to the restaurant. Ireland’s Four Courts remains closed.
The driver, who police did not name, was transporting a passenger via a ride-share service at the time of the accident. He was reportedly treated for non-life-threatening injuries. All individuals who were hospitalized as a result of the crash have since been released, Arlington County Police confirmed.
“The comprehensive investigation, which included an extensive review of evidence, supported the conclusion the driver experienced a medical emergency prior to the crash,” a statement from the Arlington Police read. “Following consultation with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, criminal charges will not be sought.”
The investigation into the crash remains active.
