The 100,000-square-foot facility is the largest of its kind from Pennsylvania to North Carolina.

Hockey players and figure skaters in Northern Virginia will soon have a new option in the region’s list of training facilities.

ION International Training Center, set to open in the spring, is a sports facility focused on ice skating and ice hockey. The 100,000-square-foot ice arena will be home to hockey and figure skating programs, ice events and shows, games and tournaments, conventions and more.

ION is being opened by an Olympian  figure skater: Luiz Taifas, who has competed in 58 countries as a Romanian national figure skating champion. He also has over 19 years of coaching experience, and has served as a figure skating judge.

The rinks at ION will be used for training beginners to elite athletes in figure skating, synchronized skating and ice hockey, which will include private lessons, conditioning and training, camps and group lessons.

The year-round facility will boast two National Hockey League-sized rinks for both recreational and professional athletes, stadium seating with 3,500-4,200 seats and a full-service gym for both the skaters and athletes, and the general public.

Other services will include a café, a pro shop and areas allocated for birthday parties and corporate events.
