The show must go on, and it looks like the Kennedy Center is one step closer to making that a possibility. On Tuesday, April 13, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announced the schedule for its 2021-2022 theater season beginning in October.

The lineup0 features hit Broadway musicals, including Hamilton, acclaimed plays; Kennedy Center productions; and special programming for its 50th anniversary celebration.

“I am elated to announce what is perhaps one of our most important theater seasons ever at the Kennedy Center as we return with such a full, exciting program of musicals and plays,” said Jeffrey Finn, vice president and executive producer of Theater at the Kennedy Center in a recent press release. “The anticipation of being able to see Broadway productions again—and be in the theater together—is palpable. This upcoming season is filled with incredible shows and works from brilliant artists, offering something for everyone.”

The theater will first welcome back guests on October 13 with the Tony Award-winning show Hadestown. Other notable performances include Mean Girls (April 5-24, 2022), Oklahoma! (April 5-10, 2022), Jersey Boys (June 14-26, 2022), Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird (June 21-July 10, 2022), and Hamilton (July 12-October 2, 2022).

Spring 2022 will also bring the return and fourth season of Broadway Center Stage. The Kennedy Center said these “new starry productions of beloved musicals” will be announced at a later date.

Although the schedule is set, the theater has yet to announce any details on how many theatergoers will be in attendance. As of May 1, theaters and indoor venues in Washington, DC, will be able to open at 25 percent capacity, with a limit of 500 people.
