As the seasons change, so does our streaming list and TBR pile. If you’re looking to add some local content to your daily entertainment schedule, look for further than these DMV creators. Whether you’re in need of a good read or want to catch the latest out of the Star Wars franchise, check out these new releases.

Book

Bookish People by Susan Coll

Those familiar with DC’s Politics and Prose bookstore will enjoy this fictionalized version of the local literary haven. The novel is informed by the DC author’s firsthand experience working in the bookstore, turning her experience into a quirky screwball comedy featuring a burnt-out bookseller and a cast of delightful supporting characters.

TV Show

The Great North

The adult animated comedy series about a close-knit family living in a small town in Alaska returns for a third season. The highly praised cast includes Nick Offerman, Jenny Slate, and Fairfax County–raised Aparna Nancherla, who voices the character of Moon. It’s a heartwarming comedy you won’t want to miss.

Book

Less Is Lost by Andrew Sean Greer

The highly anticipated sequel to Less, the 2017 Pulitzer Prize–winning novel by DC-born author Andrew Sean Greer, is on shelves now. Less Is Lost brings back beloved character Arthur Less as he accepts a series of literary gigs that take him on a whirlwind adventure across the country, only to learn the timeless lesson that no matter where you go, you can’t escape yourself.

Movie

MEAD

This hybrid animated/live-action kids film is a wacky sci-fi journey based on the 1972 comic book Fever Dreams. Patton Oswalt, who grew up in Sterling and attended Broad Run High School, voices the title character M.E.A.D., an AI spaceship that becomes sentient and decides to use its powers for good rather than evil. First premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May, the film is now available to stream on Netflix.

TV Show

Andor

The Andor series is yet another expansion of the Star Wars universe. A prequel to the film Rogue One, the series follows rebel spy Cassian Andor. Alexandria-born Beau Willimon, showrunner for seasons one to four of House of Cards, is credited with writing three episodes of the first season of Andor. The series is now available to stream on Disney Plus.
