After the Omicron variant caused closings across the DMV this winter, things are slowly returning back to normal. This week, the Smithsonian announced that three of its DC museums are set to reopen to the public this month.
On March 9, guests will be welcomed back to the Anacostia Community Museum, while the National Postal Museum and National Air and Space Museum will open March 11. All of the Smithsonian museums and the National Zoo will continue to operate on modified schedules due to continued staffing shortages.
Once open, guests can visit the Anacostia Community Museum Wednesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. , the National Postal Museum Fridays through Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m., and the National Air and Space Museum Thursdays through Sundays from 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Those wanting to head to the Air and Space Museum will want to step on it when it comes to planning their trip. Starting March 28, the museum will temporarily close its doors once again, this time to continue to work on the planned multi-year renovation. Once the famed museum reopens this fall, guests can visit the Albert Einstein Planetarium and wander the new west-end exhibitions, which will include “The Wright Brothers & the Invention of the Aerial Age,” “Nation of Speed,” and more.
If you can’t make it before March 28, some of the museum’s world-class collections will be on exhibit in other Smithsonian locations, including the National Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of the American Indian, and National Museum of African American History and Culture.
