THE BOOK: Furious Gravity

THE GENRE: Literary fiction and nonfi ction

THE CONTRIBUTORS: Based throughout the DMV region, more than 20 of the book’s 50 writers live in NoVA.

THE STORIES: Furious Gravity is the latest installment of the Grace and Gravity literary journal series, written by DC-based women writers. Volume IX of the series, Furious Gravity features essays and prose that “follow the theme of ‘furious gravity,’” Hahn says. Adds Young, “It’s a nice collection of short stories, longer pieces, fiction, personal narratives and more. All of the work is really responding to this idea of gravity being a force that pulls us together, pushes us apart and the way that energy can become furious.”

NOVA CONNECTIONS: Five contributors (and Hahn too) have received masters of fine arts degrees from George Mason University in creative writing- and literature-related studies, and many stories in the journal are set in the region. “It’s really writers from the region, writing about the region,” Young says.
