McLean Community Center unveils renovations at Ingleside Avenue

The 18-month expansion project reached completion in early January.

The McLean Community Center, a staple of the Fairfax County community since 1975, recently completed its renovation project at the 1234 Ingleside Avenue facility.

At a total cost of $8 million, the renovation and expansion included increasing the size of the lobby; refurbishing existing meeting rooms; adding additional multi-purpose rooms; bringing the center into compliance with building codes; modernizing with new walls, ceilings and floors; and upgrading the center’s technology with energy-efficient appliances and state-of-the-art mechanics.

To improve patrons’ access to customer service, the McLean Community Center has centralized its front desk operations and consolidated the center’s administrative offices into one, cohesive area. Other technological improvements benefiting both the staff and guests are an improved IT infrastructure, a public address system, security cameras and access keypads.

Time was also spent on enhancing the property’s outdoor section, including increased lighting on pathways, adding more parking spaces, improving the storm water management system—while saving as many trees as possible—and building  a new courtyard with seating for visitors to enjoy the landscaping.

Another perk of the project includes improved access to the second floor, which holds the McLean Project for the Arts and The Alden balcony entrance.

As a result of the project’s completion, the McLean Community Center’s performing arts venue, The Alden, has returned home this month. To celebrate, the theater is offering a wide range of professional performances this spring, including favorites like The Wizard of Oz, I’ve Got a Little Twist and Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors and The Winter Tales.
