Golf Carts on the Highway: Drivers may now have to share the highway with golf carts, at least on the day of equine events. Carts and other utility vehicles can now cross one-lane or two-lane highways at a venue the same day as an event.

Raccoon Hunting: Be on alert raccoons, Gov. Northam officially approved a bill that removed the prohibition of hunting or killing raccoons after 2 a.m. on Sundays.

Cursing and Fornicating Still Illegal: A pair of bills that did not get passed would have repealed older laws on swearing in public or having sex outside of marriage, both of which are currently punishable as a Class 4 misdemeanor.

Computer Coding: Spanish, French … computer coding? With the passage of this latest law, a computer coding credit can substitute as a foreign language credit for high school graduation requirements for certain students. Can you be conversational in computer coding?

State Salamander: I’m sure many of you have had the debate with your friends as to what Virginia’s state salamander should be. Well that debate can officially be put to rest. Congratulations to the red salamander. Make Virginia proud.

License Plates: If you’re tired of the selection you have of specialty Virginia license plates, good news, some new designs are available. New license plates support veterans, Future Farmers of America, NASA’s Wallops Island and, more controversially, one that says “Stop Gun Violence.”
