“My interest in journalism goes way back. My teachers at McKinley Elementary School encouraged me to develop writing skills, and I even wrote for the little school newspaper. Watergate happened when I was a high school student, showing me the power of investigative journalism. I started college planning to major in print journalism, but my first newswriting and reporting class was taught by a veteran newsman who was also the adviser to broadcast journalism majors. He encouraged me to switch, and it was good advice.”
