4 Places to Learn and Practice Curling in the DMV

Get ready to hit the ice and try your hand at the Olympic sport.

By Emily Perez February 4, 2026 at 7:30 am

The 2026 Winter Olympics are kicking off in Milan, and curling — a Canadian sport that involves sliding heavy stones across the ice, using brushes to guide their path — is sure to be in the spotlight. If you’re feeling inspired to try the sport yourself, there are plenty of clubs and rinks where you can get your curl on.

Before you hit the ice, here are some things to know: Most clubs require registration in advance with differing fees based on the program. Age and ability restrictions often apply, based on the event and skill level. Equipment is typically provided, but it’s always best to check.

Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned curler, here are the best places to practice curling in the DMV.

Curling & Cocktails at the Wharf

A pop-up rink at the Wharf in Washington, DC, gives anyone a chance to try their hand at curling. The event runs February 4 to 18, from 7 to 10 p.m. Just preregister for a free game, with a limit of four people per game. Each group curling session is 10 minutes long. Loudoun Curling Club

Loudoun Curling Club has become a hub for Northern Virginia curlers. Beginners can jump into “Learn to Curl” sessions on February 6 and 13. These 90-minute sessions cover fundamental techniques and strategy. The club also offers winter leagues, practice sessions, and fun socials. No experience or equipment needed. Potomac Curling Club

One of the DMV’s oldest curling clubs, Potomac Curling Club offers a variety of beginner-friendly programs. Learn the basics, play a game, and enjoy a complimentary breakfast with the “Saturday Morning Breakfast Extravaganza.” It also hosts a “Try Curling” open house on February 21. For those looking to commit, consider joining their competitive leagues, open to all skill levels. Potomac Curling Club: 13810 Old Gunpowder Rd., Laurel, Maryland

The Chesapeake Curling Club

With three sheets of curling ice, this curling club has events for all skill levels. In addition to beginner lessons, Chesapeake hosts themed events, social bonspiels (or curling tournaments), and group sessions. Kids can also join the fun with the Junior Curling Program. Talbot County Community Center: 10028 Ocean Gateway, Easton, Maryland
