If you’re interested in trying out a new craft where you can learn a new skill, these local businesses offer great options. Whether you’re a casual crafter or a seasoned pro, there’s something for everyone on this list.

Woodworking at Rockler

Learn all about woodworking at Rockler with “Make and Take” classes where attendees can craft their own bandsaw box, wooden stool, cabinet, and more. The business is family-owned and sells woodworking tools, lumbar, and other supplies. 12975 Fair Lakes Shopping Center, Ste. 2975, Fairfax, starting at about $148

Pottery at Clay Café

Clay Café offers pottery/clay wheel classes for both adults and children. Classes are typically 75 minutes and include cleanup time, a demo, instructions and throwing the clay itself. Students typically create one or two pieces. After drying time (which is about two weeks), participants will be called to come to the café to paint their pottery. The studio then glazes and refires the piece and holds the pottery for 30 days until students can pick up their creation. 14511 Route 50, Ste. G, Chantilly, starting at about $71

Mosaic Making with Art Master Class

Learn how to make a Turkish mosaic lamp in Fairfax at this 2.5-hour workshop. No prior experience is needed, and all materials are provided for the class. Best of all, Turkish delights (lokum) and traditional Turkish tea will be served during the workshop for some crafting fuel. 4437 Brookfield Corporate Dr., Chantilly, starting at about $109

Quilting and Sewing Classes at The Quilter’s Studio

If you’ve ever wanted to pursue quilting or sewing, checking out The Quilter’s Studio’s offerings. Participants can try their hand at classes like beginning hand quilting, an improv quilting class using a traditional log cabin block precept, a no-sew project to make Scandinavian woven fabric stars, and more. 9600 Main St. Unit L, Fairfax, prices vary

Candle Pouring at Paddywax

This 45-minute candle pouring class at Paddywax in Reston Town Center has guests participate in a DIY, step-by-step process to make their own candle. Candles are ready for pickup three hours after pouring, or they can be shipped for $15 each. Scent options include fresh Meyer lemon, Earl Grey, and lavender, wild fig and cedar, and others. 1816 Library St., Reston, $45

Pick Your Craft of Choice at Shop Made in VA

There’s something for every craft lover at Shop Made in VA. Creating a gemstone and pearl bracelet on July 19, making a pressed flower frame on August 10 with Wildry, and painting your pet on August 17 with instructor Alexandra Schmeling are just some of the options on the schedule this summer. 1121 King St., Alexandria, prices vary
