The annual Bike to Work Day is set for Thursday, May 15, and there will be several pit stop pop-ups around Northern Virginia offering cyclists refreshments, entertainment, and giveaways.

Bike to Work Day is a free, annual event designed to encourage more people to commute by bike. It’s a joint effort between the Washington Area Bicyclist Association and Commuter Connections.

Participation is simple. Anyone can register for free, hop on their bike, and head to the office on two wheels on May 15. There will be more than 100 pit stops throughout DC, Maryland, and Virginia this year, where riders can pick up a free Bike to Work Day T-shirt (the first 18,000 who register and attend will get one). Many pit stops also offer live music, food and drink giveaways, and other freebies.

For example, The Boro in Tysons will have a live DJ, coffee from Twenty Twenty Coffee, goodies from Fabletics and Peloton, and free Jeni’s Ice Cream for registered participants from 4 to 6 p.m.

Old Town Alexandria’s City Hall pit stop will have local vendors, giveaways, and a DJ from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. At National Landing’s Water Park, from 7 to 9 a.m., there will be free coffee, snacks, and music.

Visit the Bike to Work Day website to see the full list of pit stops in NoVA. Each stop will have T-shirts for registered participants. Other freebies and offerings will vary by location.

Plus, bicycle convoys will run throughout the region so that riders can move with a group. There are multiple routes that travel through Northern Virginia and DC, with a map available here.
