Cruise Your Way to a Nats Game on a Potomac Water Taxi

City Cruises has resumed a route that brings passengers to Navy Yard from Old Town Alexandria.

By Debbie Williams April 28, 2025 at 10:58 am

You can now skip gameday traffic and glide your way to the ballpark. City Cruises has restarted its Potomac Water Taxi service from Old Town Alexandria to Navy Yard. Riders will be ferried to the Diamond Teague Dock at Navy Yard Park, offering easy access to Nationals Park as well as Audi Field, which will host three FIFA World Cup games in June.

“Our goal in adding this additional route is to make DC’s hottest destinations more accessible from the water,” Chad Barth, vice president of the Mid-Atlantic Region for City Cruises, said in a statement. “This route gives fans a unique and relaxing way to reach any of the stadium events around Navy Yard and allows them to start their tailgate on the water!”

The trip from Old Town to the Navy Yard dock typically takes 30 to 40 minutes. The Potomac River Taxi will depart Old Town Alexandria an hour before the start of an event on weekdays. On weekends, it will leave 90 minutes before the start. It will depart the Navy Yard dock 30 minutes after the event ends.

Tickets can be purchased online and at ticket booths located at the Wharf, National Harbor, and Old Town Alexandria. Season passes are also available.

The Old Town Potomac Water Taxi route to Navy Yard was last offered in 2019. It was halted when a contract with a company managing the Diamond Teague Dock expired.
