Virginia State Police have arrested the driver involved in Friday’s fatal hit-and-run in Fauquier County.
Police located Dennis D. Dunning, 54, at his home in Catlett and arrested him on Wednesday. Dunning was charged with felony hit-and-run, involuntary manslaughter, and operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock.
The collision occurred at 5:47 p.m. on Route 806 at Flippo Lane in Fauquier County. A pedestrian, Garland J. Heddings, 73, was crossing the street when he was hit first by a northbound vehicle, then by an unknown vehicle traveling southbound. Neither vehicle stopped at the scene. Heddings died at the scene.
Police initially said that the northbound vehicle was likely a 2001–2003 Nissan Frontier, though the second vehicle was not identified.
Dunning was taken into custody without incident and is now being held in the Fauquier Adult Detention Center without bond.
There have been no updates on the identity of the second driver.
Anyone who may have information is asked to call Senior Trooper J. Tanner at 540-347-6200 or email [email protected].
